Are You 50 Or Older, And Unable to Work Due to A Disability?

The Social Security Disability rules change in your favor after the age of 50, and again at the age of 55. If you have a physical disability or a combination of physical and mental disabilities that prevents you from working a job that requires you to be on your feet most of the day, then you may be eligible for benefits through Social Security.

The Social Security Administration May Consider You to Be Disabled If You Are 50 Years Old, And Only Able to Do Sedentary Work.

Sedentary work is work that allows you to sit most of the day and lift up to 10 pounds. You may be found disabled if you have not done sedentary work before, or you have not learned skills that would allow you to perform skilled sedentary work.

Even if you have learned certain skills from past jobs that allow you to perform a sedentary job, you may not be able to mentally perform the requirements of certain types of skilled work due to depression, loss of concentration from pain or pain medications.
